Schoolgirl violated, Juba League men blamed

A schoolgirl was allegedly violated by a group of youths in Bidyadhar area of Tarash upazila in Sirajganj on Tuesday night.

Relatives of the victim blamed activists of Juba League, youth front of ruling Awami League, for the incident.

They said Mahir Uddin, 26, information affairs secretary of Naogaon union unit Juba League, Anisur Rahman, vice-president of six number ward unit Juba League, and their associates were responsible for the molestation.

Tarash police inspector (investigation) Fazle Ashik said they were conducting drives to arrest the perpetrators.

Locals said the victim, a resident of Natore, headed for the house of her brother-in-law located at village Mannan Nagar in Tarash along with her younger brother on Tuesday afternoon.

They got off the bus at Mahishluti by mistake which was one-and-half kilometres away from Mannan Nagar bus stand.

While the victim was searching the address, Mahir Uddin and Anis told them they would help for reaching the house of their brother-in-law.

The Juba League leaders took the siblings to Bidyadhar, confined the victim’s brother there, and violated the victim.

Hearing their scream, locals rushed to the spot and informed the police.

Later, police rescued the victim along with her brother.
